Did you know?
Canada’s forestry sector employs approximately 11,600 Indigenous workers, making it one of the largest Indigenous employers in the country.
Growing an inclusive green economy, and sustainable management of our most important renewable resource, is centred in valuing and respecting the communities where forestry operates. We recognize the unique and irreplaceable role Indigenous stewardship plays in managing Canada’s forests, and the vital importance forests have to the cultural, economic and spiritual relationships Indigenous peoples hold with the land. The forest sector is committed to providing better job opportunities, quality of life, and reducing climate risks in these communities through cooperation and partnership.

We’re fostering sustainable, more resilient communities through the circular economy.

Wood chips, sawdust, and bark — materials that might otherwise be considered “wood waste” — being used by the mills that create them as a low-carbon energy source are helping to reduce dependance on fossil fuels in Canada’s remote, northern and Indigenous communities.

Indigenous Opportunities & Partnerships

Canada’s forest sector employs approximately 11,600 Indigenous workers, which makes it one of the largest Indigenous employers in the country. There are also 1,400 Indigenous-owned businesses in the forest sector including sawmills, silviculture businesses, and biomass energy facilities. FPAC and its members are committed to facilitating greater Indigenous participation in a thriving Canadian forest sector as it brings significant opportunities to existing and emerging Indigenous-owned businesses and initiatives.

Foresters are our first line of defense in the fight against climate change.

Canada’s Registered Professional Foresters (RPFs) play a critical ‘boots on the ground’ role in monitoring and managing our forests. With worsening wildfire and forest pest outbreaks, forest management is the best tool we have to adapt forests and build resiliency, while supporting the green, well-paying jobs that support families, sustain communities, and accelerate Canada’s move towards a growing, green economy.
