It was unusually hot in Nova Scotia for late April when I was packing for a flight to Alberta. Recently finishing my first year of Forestry school, I was eager to go experience work in a different province.

The Millar Western BBQ is just a small glimpse of how the forestry sector branches into the community.

Each summer I have experienced different areas of the mill learning new skills and expanding my knowledge.

Visual impact assessments are used to determine if the visual quality objective target of an area will be met if the proposed harvested activities take place. Visual quality objectives (VQO) are assigned to areas based on how visually sensitive a landscape is.

Today I wanted to give you some insight about how forestry has been a part of my life while living in Whitecourt, Alberta.

As a summer student working for Tolko Woodlands in High Level, Alberta, May was an exciting month. Each day we learned something new as we were taught what a day in the life of a forestry worker could look like.

To start, my name is Aaron Wilde. I grew up in a small town in Alberta called Whitecourt.

Many of my hobbies have me finding myself surrounded by oceans, lakes and forests.

In this post I’d like to share my experience of learning about the value chain and business activities from ‘end to end’.

I have been very excited to share this story as it’s one of the most memorable experiences from my time at Canfor and could not have happened without the support of my managers and some amazing colleagues. I like to call this story “the goat lick trip”.
