It feels like just a few days ago I heard that I was accepted by this program, but here I am writing my third blog post. Time has been flying by!
Today for this blog post I thought I would talk about another project that I have been working on.
Another lingering issue at the mill is that one of our eye wash stations has been operating under mill water. Our mill water isn’t suitable water for an eye wash station, so I was tasked with creating some new piping plans to run our potable water to the eye wash station.
This job started with a day of walking around the mill and mapping out the current potable water supply lines. I did this to find the best point to tee off to run pipe to the eye wash station. This was a slight challenge as the eye wash is in the corner of the mill and on the third floor. To make things even harder, there were no eye wash stations anywhere near it on the second floor. I unfortunately had to settle for our eye wash that was on the bottom floor, a decent climb up to the third floor.
Now for this job I needed to create a piping isometric drawing, which roughly shows the path that your pipe will run on each floor. This also proved to be a challenge for me as I was not familiar with the software to create piping iso’s.
After tinkering around for a few hours, I ended up creating this drawing for the bottom floor.
One cool thing I learned from this project is that most welders are very talented and barely need to rely on your drawings to create piping systems. Most of the time they just use your drawing to get an idea of how much pipe they need to complete the job, and for the endpoints of the pipe. This made everything a lot easier as I am not the best at creating piping iso’s at this point in my life!
Currently there are some welders coming in over the next couple of weekends to complete this job. It is a great learning experience for me to deal with people and run a job on my own.
Some other exciting news, I am going to Big Valley Jamboree this coming weekend in Camrose! If you do not know what this is, it is a county music festival where you tent in a field and attend many different performances over the entire weekend. This will be my second time going and I am thrilled to meet up with some of my U of A friends that I haven’t seen in a while! This year the three headliners are Dallas Smith, Morgan Wallen, and Dierks Bentley. I am super excited to see Morgan Wallen because he is my favorite country artist right now! I will get some photos and will share some of my stories in my blog next week.
Until next time,
Aaron
