Hello Everyone,
Welcome to my second blog of the summer, I have had quite the exciting week and wanted to show some pictures of the experience and for the ones I don’t have pictures of I will explain.
Firstly, I started off my week going to work at Alberta Newsprint Company, afterwards I went mini golfing at Whitecourt’s newer outdoor Mini golf place at Brookes Creek Campground, where I shot 7 over par.
Brookes Creek has a very nice mini golf course as you can see from the picture, and it all outside so you get to soak up the sun and have some fun.
The next day I decided to do one of the more unique things of Whitecourt and float down the McLeod River. A bunch of friends and I all met up after work and grabbed our tubes some sunscreen and headed down to the tube drop off which is 5 minutes outside of town. I didn’t get any pictures of myself tubing because I was too scared to get my phone wet, but here are some pictures I found online. Floating down the river is extremely popular in Whitecourt and it even draws people from all over to come and try it out. It is completely free and deep enough where you wont get caught up but not so deep that you can’t touch. The float usually takes around 2-3 hours but with all the extra rain we have been getting it cut the time down to just under two hours. When getting near the end you have to be super carful to get out in time as the McLeod river meets and joins into the Athabasca River, which is not a river you want to be tubing in, as the current is much faster, and it has an undertow.
Later on in the week I took a visit to the Whitecourt Golf and Country Club (I actually took three visits in the week, I am a golf addict), for a round with some friends, Whitecourt’s golf course is definitely one of the better more advanced courses I have played on with a wide range of obstacles. I golf quite often a couple times a week at least. I love golfing because it is a game that is against yourself, you could be playing against a pro but as long as you beat your old score you’re a winner. It was 32 degrees Celsius when I played this week, meaning that a lot of the mosquitos that were waiting to hatch finally did. I was eaten alive by the end of the first hole, I ended up using this as an excuse for my entire round as I continually shot worse and worse.
I ended my week off enjoying a thunder storm that passed through Whitecourt, I really enjoy sitting outside (under cover) while a storm is on. I find it extremely entertaining and memorizing watching the sky light up followed by that huge boom. That is one of the down sides of moving to a city for school that all the extra noise sometimes takes away from the beauty of natural entertainment. (unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of the Storm, I was too busy enjoying the show)
Thanks for reading everyone, can’t wait to share more on my next blog.
